In addition to its permanent collection, CAMH hosts special exhibitions that explore various themes and issues. For instance, the museum has collaborated with the Museum of the African Diaspora to host the Diaspora Unite! the exhibition, which features works by 13 women artists from different geographical origins and generations. The museum has also organized the Garmenting: Costume as Contemporary Art exhibition, which examines the role of clothing in contemporary visual art and showcases the works of 35 international artists.
CAMH is known for its dedication to supporting artists of African descent. The museum has invited several artists who have close relationships with the institution, such as Tay Butler, Kehinde Wiley, Karen Navarro, Jimmy Castillo, and Amoako Boafo, to contribute works to its exhibitions. These artists will be exhibiting for the first time in the United States, and the Museum of the African Diaspora is hosting a benefit auction for them in 2020. Learn more
